Sofia recieved the Special Achievement Award from The National Board of Review, such a honor! Bill Murray was the one who gave her the award and this is his amazing, touching speech:

Bill Murray: “I want the best for her because she’s a lady. She acts like a lady, the women in her movies are ladies, they have strength and power and they’re strong. Even the pole dancers in this latest movie have enough of themselves to call the lead actor a moron. As all you women should call your men this evening, I think, pole or not. So we’ll give her a boost to say, go on, you’ve made it this far, push her out into the deep water, push her out into bigger and deeper films, more and more films. She has a beautiful eye. She has great taste in the people she chooses to work with. She’s a kind and thoughtful director and editor and producer. She’s all the things that we hoped we could be when we were like this. She’s been lucky so far, and she’s been strong so far. Let’s keep her going. I appreciate your asking her to receive this award for filmmaking achievement. Ms. Ms. Ms. Sofia Coppola.”

"I really think it’s probably the best part I’ve ever been given. I’ve known Sofia for a long time, since I was growing up, and we’ve been friends from kind of a distance. I was blown away when all that excitement happened over her for Lost in Translation. It’s exciting when it happens to one of your peers, someone you care about. Over the years I had worked with her dad [Francis Ford Coppola], workshopping some of the things he was directing. I’m really lucky to have the opportunity to work with Sofia. Somewhere takes place in the Chateau Marmont—I’m going to be moving in there soon. I’ll actually be living there as we shoot, which is kind of cool. My character is going through some kind of personal crisis."

Soundtrack news for Somewhere?

Sofia has met with punk band The Veronicas:

"Sofia contacted us to come in for a meeting. But we can't reveal what it was for. She is so cool and is actually a fan of our music, which is a huge compliment to us."

Possibly for the new movie soundtrack? who knows but I can't hardly wait to get some more news about this new project, I (we)'ve waited so long for it, I'm excited! The photo was taken at the Chateau Marmont, Somewhere's main location, yeah I'm that excited! ^^

So true. No Sofia news. But really soon the Dior ad will be finished and we we will see some new Sofia stuff.

And because of that she's Marc's muse, I like a lot their long term friendship, they influence each other in their work and in their personal lifes.

Francis Ford Coppola knew his daughter would become a director by the time she was 3.

"My wife and I were driving in the car with Sofia and we were having a typical silly marital argument that was going on a little too long. All of a sudden this little voice in the back seat said, 'Cut!' She knew how to use that word at a very early age."

Later, when Sofia was about 6, on the set of her dad's film "Apocalypse Now" she would draw elaborate pictures of palm trees and helicopters and tell stories connecting the pictures.

"She was a very imaginative child," says her mother Eleanor Coppola. "But when she played with her friends, she always wanted them to play her way — her story, her costumes. And I would have to say, 'Sofia, not everyone wants to play your way.' But the kids, inevitably, did want to play Sofia's way. She had that pattern of somehow gathering everyone's enthusiasms, which is very much like a director."

Scarlett, the other Sofia girl?

Much have been said about their relationship as Scarlett was almost not present on the 'Lost in Translation' DVD extras and after Sofia forgot to thank her during her acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. When asked Scarlett said:

"That's not true at all. Sofia was lovely. She was accepting for screenwriting, and Bill basically wrote a lot of it. Sofia came up to me afterward and said, 'Oh, I'm such an ass, I forgot!' I was like, 'It's OK; it doesn't bother me.' If she was accepting for directing, then it probably would have bothered me. But, um, it didn't."

I don't think they had a rocky relationship or whatever because Scarlett would have said it, as she openly did when she said that Bill Murray and her didn't have much contact after shoots just because they did different things, and Sofia has always talked pretty nicely of her so I hope there's no drama and they work together again because that would be interesting. Way more interesting? Sofia directing both Kirsten and Scarlett together.
