Figaro Magazine (March 2011)

Sofia is posing with the new Louis Vuitton collection she has designed, I'm loving this pic!

There's no new news but here's a really interesting video interview about her career, what inspires her to write her scrips, the music she puts in movies and her dad's advice as a filmmaker:

Lost Somewhere

Sofia for BUST Magazine, so pretty! A bit of the interview:

Your stories are told through the perspective of young, innocent girls. Is this a conscious decision?

Well, 'Somewhere' is told more from the point of view of the Johnny Marco character [played by Stephen Dorff], but yes, we do see an exotic world through the eyes of his daughter Cleo [Elle Fanning]. They have a link because I guess I like these kind of girls. Charlotte [Lost in Translation] and Cleo are thoughtful observers. I like girls that have to break out of their environment to define themselves in their own way.

Your films also deal tenderly with father/daughter relationships. How attuned to that are you?

I don't know, I was thinking about becoming a parent for the first time when I was writing 'Somewhere', so it was on my mind, but it's true, 'Lost in Translation' has that. I like that memorable and romantic relationships can exist in an innocent way.

Many compare 'Somewhere' to 'Lost in Translation' and now we know why. Can't wait to see it!!

somewhere between a vampire & a hollywood story

A gorgeous portrait of the 'Somewhere' trio. Want to know what was Sofia's original project before writing this movie? A vampire story!

"It's sort of embarrassing. After 'Marie Antoinette', I was thinking, Oh, I feel like it's time for a vampire movie. So I was writing this vampire story, and then that character [Hollywood star] came in. It was before 'Twilight' and all that stuff. Yeah, he came into the story, but it was all set in Europe. And then I was writing the character of the daughter, and I asked my friend's daughter what books she would be reading, and she was explaining to me the plot of 'Twilight', and I didn't know what it was. So that's why we have the daughter talking about that in the movie."

And then life imitated art, because Sofia was approached to direct the final 'Twilight' installment, 'Breaking Dawn'! Luckily she turned that project into 'Somewhere' but it's quite a funny story.

la chic fille

"When I was young I felt so frustrated because I couldn't excel in any field. Then I realised that cinema was the medium that encompassed all my interests".

Ravishing looking in Madame Le Figaro magazine!! Not many news apart from this cover except that the official site for 'Somewhere' is online:

Visit and enjoy the pics and the gorgeous trailer.

Women in Hollywood

Sofia appears on ELLE's US November 2010 spread:

"When I appeared in 'Godfather III'. I had never wanted to be an actress, and I was 18, and being criticized for ruining my dad’s movie was a hard thing. But I also think it makes you stronger. I felt that I could handle things after that. John Huston told me when I was very young, “Not everyone is going to like you,” he said, “so don’t try to get everyone to.” And that was so liberating."

Thankully she didn't give up her dream of directing!

love like a sunset

Smoking hot Sofia dressed as a man for a photoshoot, look how cool she looks. There are not much news except that Sofia has been inspired by Phoenix's song "Love like a Sunset" to do a film (I don't know if it refers to 'Somewhere' or another new idea she has on the works). Hear the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8c3CUNKQ2Q

She has also been spotted in New York, baby bump alert!: http://celebritybabyscoop.com/2010/03/06/sofia-coppolas-big-apple-bump

And if you liked Sofia in a suit, see Scarlett Johansson being smoking hot as well: http://www.fotolog.com/miss_scarlett ♥

she hearts cinema

There's not much going on in Sofia's world, just that she's editing 'Somewhere' and taking care of little Romy in New York but she gave a new interview with some interesting quotes about cinema:

- What are your all-time favourite films? "All that Jazz, Rumble Fish, Breathless, The Last Picture Show and Lolita".

- Who has been the biggest influence on your career? "My father — for setting the example to follow your heart, and to be driven to do what you love."

A decade in style

Sofia Coppola in Chloé in the Fall Winter Issue of AnOther Magazine's celebration of this decade in fashion, of course, Miss Coppola had to be included! The pic is really sweet and very Sofia-esque, a girl in a bed, like those shoots she took of Kirsten and Scarlett, I loved it.

And another good news is that 'Somewhere' is completed, so stills and a trailer should be out soon, yay!

an american girl in paris

Where do you live now?

"I live between Paris and New York. I came to Paris two years ago, just before my daughter was born.I still go back to New York, but I enjoy being here when I am. But sometimes I miss my American girlfriends, and how much easier it is to do something in your own country where you know the language and culture."

How has becoming a mother changed you and your way of life?

"It has made me slow down and take time. I would never before have sat at a park for an hour in the middle of having work."

the bunnies come out and play in 'somewhere'

More info about Sofia's new film 'Somewhere' which is currently shooting at the Chateau Marmont, Playboy guru Hugh Hefner posted this about his girlfriend twins of Twitter:

"Said goodnight early to the Twins because they have an early morning call for their Sophia Coppola film."
-
So the playmates will be featured in the movie, it looks like 'Somewhere' is going to explore Hollywood's frivolous side!

Sofia has met with punk band The Veronicas:

Paris je t'aime

"I have always loved the beauty of Paris, the general harmony of its streets and monuments... but what I really appreciate is the pace of life here - fairly slow and calm without being boring - which suits me perfectly."

Sofia with a Louis Vuitton wallet designed by her and Paris, ooh Paris.

"She loves fashion, music, art and film. And she combines them in a way that seems to be quite natural."

- Marc Jacobs.

Sofia's choice:

My favourite fashion labels: "Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Acne jeans & Alaia."

My essential wardrobe item: "Silk pyjamas."

The last gig I went to: "My Bloody Valentine."

What I'm reading: "'My Mistress's Sparrow is Dead': Great Love Stories from Chekhow to Munro', edited by Jeffrey Eugenides; and the 'Olivia' children's books by Ian Falconer, to my daugther."

My favourite films: "All that Jazz, Rumble Fish, A Bowl of Souffle and The Last Picture Show."

My one item of luxury: "A big umbrella."

An American girl in Paris:

"Hollywood is a world entirely centred on cinema. People think and talk only about films, live only for the 7th Art. So i's quite nice to be a little removed from it all, to be able to see it from a distance and live in a place where the real world exists. Personally, I love going to Hollywood occasionally - just to visit. I think it's a harmful place to live full-time, somewhere where you can loose yourself very easily and very quickly."

Sofia for Louis Vuitton debuts in Tokyo

"To start with I wanted to make a bag for myself and then we talked about making a little capsule collection. My friends and I are always searching for the perfect day bag. It fits all your things but isn’t too big and isn’t too heavy. I wanted a bag that I could use every day that was coming from the heritage of Louis Vuitton’s great leather goods, not connected to the fashion side of the brand."

The fruit of that labor, the SC Bag (1st pic), comes in four versions: one in dark gray suede, two in navy blue or burgundy calf leather and one in LV’s signature monogram canvas. For evening, Coppola designed four compact clutches (2nd pic) with buckles resembling the locks on Vuitton’s classic trunks.

The filmmaker also channeled the Seventies when she designed her take on the peep-toe wedge sandal: "A heel you can really wear all night and it’s comfortable but still looks chic. I travel a lot and when you travel, you don’t want to bring 10 pairs of shoes."

So what do you think of Sofia as a designer? Maybe the collection is a little bit conservative but that defines her style, classy but with some modern touch.

Miss Dior Chérie fragrance.

The TV ad, scheduled to bow worldwide early next year, stars Byelorussian model Maryna Linchuk: "It’s about a young woman in Paris", director Sofia Coppola said, adding that she’s writing a new film, but that “it’s too early to say any more.”

A Dior Chérie ad and a new script on the works, that's all it's known about Sofia's upcoming projects for now!
