it's a coppola thing

This is a little gift for you all to wish you a Happy New Year, it's a photo of Sofia with little Romy on her arms while filming a scene for 'Somewhere'.

Many of you wouldn't recall but when he was filming, Francis Ford Coppola used to bring Sofia to his movie sets when she was a little girl, just like Sofia is doing now with Romy, isn't that an adorable family tradition? I bet Romy and Sofia's other daughter Cosima will love cinema as much as their family does.

Here there are some pics of the shooting in Paris and I'm very happy because I love Natalie and I bet this ad is going to be gorgeous, let's hope it doesn't take too long for this campaign to be out.

Lost in Translation - trivia (II)

Sofia wrote the script with Kirsten Dunst in mind to play Charlotte but she was attached to 'Spiderman' so Sofia opted for Scarlett Johansson after seeing her in 'Manny & Lo', a movie Johansson filmed when she was 12.

At the New York Bar/Grill in the Park Hyatt hotel, one "Lost in Translation" theme drink called L.I.T. is available.

Scarlett was reluctant to wear sheer underwear
at first, until Sofia modelled them for her.

The conversation between the two men in the Sauna (near the end of the film) goes something like this:
- I can hardly eat papayas anymore!
- At first I was really happy ... at first, I thought ... well I thought...
- At the beginning, yes.
- In Germany, I was looking forward to it, but in the meantime...
- Yeah. Now, something German...
- Hmmmm.
- After this, we'll go out and get something German to eat here!

Lost in Translation - trivia (I)

- Filmed in 27 days.

- Sofia wrote the lead role specifically for Bill Murray, and later said that if Murray turned it down, she wouldn't have done the movie.

- The inspiration for having Bob Harris do a Suntory whisky commercial was partially inspired by the fact that Sofia Coppola's father, Francis Ford Coppola, made a real Suntory commercial with Akira Kurosawa in the 1970s.

- In many other countries, the title also got lost in translation. The title in Portuguese translates as "Love is a Strange Place". The title in Polish translates as "In Between Words". The film's title in South America, in China and in Israel all mean "Lost in Tokyo".

- Bill Murray's favourite film of his own

The Virgin Suicides: trivia

Nothing new in Sofia's world so I will post a bit of trivia and interesting facts of Sofia's films, starting with 'The Virgin Suicides':

- Thurstoon Moore of the band Sonic Youth originally gave the book 'The Virgin Suicides' to Sofia Coppola. After reading it she decided to make it into a movie.

- Josh Hartnett used a wig for his role as Trip Fontaine.

- Leslie Hayman, who plays Therese Lisbon, is a close friend of Sofia Coppola and was the face of Coppola's clothing line Milkfed.

on set

Sofia is already shooting her film 'Somewhere' in Milan, this is an on set pic are there are more (tiny) photos of Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning here:

Can't wait for pics with Benicio del Toro!

First image of 'Somewhere's on set, this girl who was cast in the movie has uploaded a few on her Flick, so check them out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/filmlerev/sets/72157621656740164/

And this is the film's protagonist Stephen Dorff talking about the movie:

"I really think it’s probably the best part I’ve ever been given. I’ve known Sofia for a long time, since I was growing up, and we’ve been friends from kind of a distance. I was blown away when all that excitement happened over her for Lost in Translation. It’s exciting when it happens to one of your peers, someone you care about. Over the years I had worked with her dad [Francis Ford Coppola], workshopping some of the things he was directing. I’m really lucky to have the opportunity to work with Sofia. Somewhere takes place in the Chateau Marmont—I’m going to be moving in there soon. I’ll actually be living there as we shoot, which is kind of cool. My character is going through some kind of personal crisis."

I hope more news come out soon, everything is so quiet in the Sofia world now that I don't know what to post! Much love dears!

Rooney shoots cameo in 'Somewhere'

Great news! Filming has already started at the Chateau Marmont and guess who will star on the film too...? Benicio Del Toro! My God! This is getting better and better!

Remember Paul Bandino from 'The Virgin Suicides'? He's Robert Schwartzman, cousin of Sofia and lead singer of the band Rooney, I love that she always includes her family members in her projects!

somewhere there's a family affair

Sofia on the set of 'Lost in Translation'. More news from 'Somewhere'! This is what an insider of the film has said:

"'Somewhere' will have all the witty, moving and empathetic qualities that characterize all her work."

And the film is something of a family affair. Sofia is producing with brother Roman Coppola ("The Darjeeling Limited") and daddy Francis Ford Coppola, Fred Roos and Paul Rassam are exec producing. I can't wait!

Which of your films did you most enjoy making?

"I like them all in different ways. I enjoyed shooting 'Lost in Translation' with a small crew in Tokyo and I’m proud of every film in a different way. They were all different stages in my life."

trip fontaine

“We put a lot of time and effort into his hair, ... And Josh came up with that great walk. I'm such a fan of his. I think he's great.”

What a great quote, he really did one amazing job, who didn't fall in love with Trip?

[The man in the middle is Jeffrey Eugenides, the author of 'The Virgin Suicides'!]

Sofia and Kirsten on the set of 'The Virgin Suicides'

"I liked that the story seemed to capture what it was like to be that age, something that I haven't seen many people get right".

Sofia photographied by then boyfriend Spike Jonze on the set of 'The Virgin Suicides'.

"It was pretty hectic because I was preparing to go to Cannes, trying to get the sound finished, and tasting wedding cake samples. But if you can do a movie, you can do a wedding. It's the same kind of thing: a production".
