I've been a little absent but I've got exciting news, I finally watched 'Somewhere'!!!

First of all, I can see how it's being compared to 'Lost in Translation' so much, it has very similar scenes and details but the tone in 'Somewhere' it's totally different. It follows more the line and style of 'Marie Antoinette', especially of MA's last scenes, so if you liked MA you will sure love this new film.

'Somewhere' is a journey of contemplation and leaves the images to speak for themselves, it hasn't got great dialogues or anything but it's reading between lines what makes it special and what will touch anyone who loves those types of movies. Stephen Dorff is amazing on it, he really carries the whole movie and Elle Fanning is simply delicious to look at, their scenes together are the best thing.

I don't want to say anything more in case I might spoil it to anyone but if you have seen it don't doubt to tell me what you thought of it.

Lost Somewhere

Your stories are told through the perspective of young, innocent girls. Is this a conscious decision?

Well, 'Somewhere' is told more from the point of view of the Johnny Marco character [played by Stephen Dorff], but yes, we do see an exotic world through the eyes of his daughter Cleo [Elle Fanning]. They have a link because I guess I like these kind of girls. Charlotte [Lost in Translation] and Cleo are thoughtful observers. I like girls that have to break out of their environment to define themselves in their own way.

Your films also deal tenderly with father/daughter relationships. How attuned to that are you?

I don't know, I was thinking about becoming a parent for the first time when I was writing 'Somewhere', so it was on my mind, but it's true, 'Lost in Translation' has that. I like that memorable and romantic relationships can exist in an innocent way.

Many compare 'Somewhere' to 'Lost in Translation' and now we know why. Can't wait to see it!!

This is a little gift for you all to wish you a Happy New Year, it's a photo of Sofia with little Romy on her arms while filming a scene for 'Somewhere'.

Many of you wouldn't recall but when he was filming, Francis Ford Coppola used to bring Sofia to his movie sets when she was a little girl, just like Sofia is doing now with Romy, isn't that an adorable family tradition? I bet Romy and Sofia's other daughter Cosima will love cinema as much as their family does.

A gorgeous portrait of the 'Somewhere' trio. Want to know what was Sofia's original project before writing this movie? A vampire story!

"It's sort of embarrassing. After 'Marie Antoinette', I was thinking, Oh, I feel like it's time for a vampire movie. So I was writing this vampire story, and then that character [Hollywood star] came in. It was before 'Twilight' and all that stuff. Yeah, he came into the story, but it was all set in Europe. And then I was writing the character of the daughter, and I asked my friend's daughter what books she would be reading, and she was explaining to me the plot of 'Twilight', and I didn't know what it was. So that's why we have the daughter talking about that in the movie."

And then life imitated art, because Sofia was approached to direct the final 'Twilight' installment, 'Breaking Dawn'! Luckily she turned that project into 'Somewhere' but it's quite a funny story.

Stephen Dorff also talks about how Sofia offered him the role on the day of his mother's passing away anniversary, which is a beautiful detail, and Elle Fanning also talks about the film. venice's golden lion for 'somewhere'!!!

OMFG, 'Somewhere' has won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival, that is the Golden Lion for the best movie in the festival, how amazing is this!? The president of the jury, Quentin Tarantino said it had been an unanimous decision from all the jury:

"It enchanted us from the first and it grew and grew in our hearts, in our analysis, in our minds and affections. We kept coming back to it in discussions, even when talking about other films, because we found it kept illustrating what we were looking for in the winner of our Golden Lion."

Quentin was the one who gave the award to Sofia and it was a very touching moment as they dated some years ago and remain close friends, watch it here: [ Speech video ]

Sofia was really moved and now I REALLY CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE! Congrats to Sofia!!

The movie has premiered at the Venice Film Festival with its glorious trio (Sofia, Elle and Stephen) and it got very positive reviews! This is the one I liked best:

'Somewhere'´s trailer is OUT!! and it looks so gorgeous, just like she did with'Marie Antoinette' in the trailer there are nearly no dialogues and it's just the beautiful music of Phoenix and The Strokes sounding.

It features some lovely dad and daugther scenes, tea parties under the water and the frivolity of fame, this really looks amazing! The movie will be out on December 22, 2010 but I can't wait!

Sofia turns 39 today! so happy birthday to the expectant mom!

And some news today, apparently Somewhere will be released on December 22, 2010, that's a long time until it opens but at least we know when we will be able to watch it.

Full synopsis of 'Somewhere':

Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a bad-boy A-List actor stumbling through a life of excess while living at Hollywood’s legendary Chateau Marmont Hotel. His days are a haze of drinks, girls, fast cars and fawning fans. Cocooned in this celebrity-induced artificial world, Johnny has lost all sense of his true self. Until, that is, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) unexpectedly shows up and unwittingly begins to anchor him. Johnny’s fragile connection to real life slowly revives in her presence. So when the time comes from Cleo to leave, his sense of loss is palpable, but the gift of hope she has also brought him leads to a beautiful, poetic denouement.

'Somewhere' news

As Sofia Coppola will be having her second baby around the time the Cannes Film Festival is held, the film will likely have its debut at the Venice Film Festival which kicks off on September 2, 2010.

Wow, that's a long wait because that means 'Somewhere' will arrive on the cinemas later this year or early on 2011... what a downer. In the meantime we have this pretty photo of Elle Fanning on set, it's going to take a lot until we get to see 'Somewhere'.
